Teaching Style
Create Trust
Shannon takes time to assess a child's needs, and adapt lessons accordingly. By creating exercises for each child individually, Shannon builds enthusiasm in her students. A lot of children feel intimidated in one-on-one learning. By creating a warm, encouraging environment, Shannon shows children how to tackle the fundamentals of music.
Holistic Approach
Music is enriching. Shannon recognizes the need for both academic rigor and emotional care. It takes a lot of flexibility to guide a child through pages of theory, music, and practice. Shannon is calm, flexible, and caring, and uses her understanding of emotional needs of children to guide them academically.
Lifelong Impact
If our kids can grow to love and experience music when they're young, it will stay with them forever. Shannon is just not teaching kids to play piano. She's teaching kids to love music.
Supporting Parents
Shannon understands that parents need tools to continue education at home. By offering tools and resources for parents, Shannon creates a collaborative relationship.
Academic Excellence
Shannon has homeschooled her children from start to finish, following all of the legal and state requirements for class work. 2 of her children are successfully employed as full-time creative artists, with a son majoring in musical theatre, and a daughter majoring in dance. All of her children are engaged in the arts and love music. Shannon takes the lessons learned from her career in education and applies them with every student.
About Shannon
Shannon has always loved music. She grew up in a family that valued academics and music, and this philosophy has stuck with her. She has been studying and performing music since the age of 5, and her parents efforts have crafted a lifelong passion in her and all of her sisters.
Shannon has 5 children, all of whom she homeschooled. All of her adult children are employed full-time as artists and creative. Her eldest son Matthew works in art direction at Amazon. Zachary, her second oldest, is the art director for a local marketing firm (he made this website, wink wink). Tyler, age 21, is a musical theatre student at Ball State. Her daughter Abby, is attending Columbia University. And Gigi, age 10, is a happy elementary student, t-shirt artist, and Ukulele player.
